Description
This course addresses the theory and practice of market design. The first part of the course considers auctions: their designs and their use in real-life situations (e.g., financial markets, internet advertising, procurement, eBay). The second part of the course covers markets where monetary transactions are either prohibited or secondary to agents? decisions. Examples of such markets that will be studied are the assignment of students to public schools (as in NYC), the allocation of organs for transplant, or house allocation. The course alternates between theory and real-life applications and case studies.
