Description

This course studies Spanish plays from the 19th to the 21st centuries in relation to their historical, socio-cultural and institutional contexts. Special attention is given to theatrical genres, methods, and the ways in which playwrights and theatre-makers have used theatre to respond to, intervene in, and debate society and political processes. Among the authors are: Leandro Fernández de Moratín, Ramón del Valle Inclán, Federico García Lorca, Antonio Buero Vallejo, Fernando Arrabal, Paloma Pedrero, Miguel del Arco, and Angélica Liddell.
