This course examines immigration and New York City, past,present, and future. Topics covered include the intersectionof immigration with economics, including entrepreneurialenterprises, as well as religion, race, gender, and ethnicity. Thecourse examines the social, economic, and political structuresof immigrant communities, the impact of successive wavesof newcomers on urban culture, and the continuing debatesover immigrant incorporation and Americanization. (Thiscourse is cross-listed with ANT 3035, BLS 3035, and SOC3035. Students may receive credit for HSP 3035, ANT 3035,BLS 3035, or SOC 3035. These courses may not substitute foreach other in the F grade replacement policy.)
