Description
This course will provide an overview of the scientific study of mental disorders, also known as psychopathology. The course will cover key concepts and definitions associated with various types of mental disorders, historical perspectives and different theoretical models of psychopathology, and the prevalence, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental disorders. Topics include the description and classification of mental disorders, leading theories and research evidence explaining their origins and course, legal and ethical issues pertaining to the assessment and treatment of mental disorders, the role of society, culture, and diversity in mental health, as well as the stigma and stereotypes associated with some mental disorders.
