A study of the region from the beginnings of modernization in the nineteenth century to the present. The course focuses on two themes: the history of development and various conflicts generated between rival nation-states, especially Israel and the Arab countries. This course is identical to HIS 3086. Students will receive credit for either POL 3086 or HIS 3086, not both.
